Q:I have an iMac G5 (2nd gen) and I need to run OS 10.5 or better in order to install and run my pro tools program. I am not too tech savy. can this be done and what is the EASIEST way to do so. Thank you

You should have no problem installing 10.5 on your iMac G5 since it meets the minimum requirements. I had zero issues with it running back when I had an G5. If my memory is correct it even ran faster after upgrading.

Easiest way to upgrade would be to purchase a copy of 10.5 and run the installer. Make sure you backup anything important (documents, media, etc) prior to doing the upgrade in case something screwy happens during the process. And sometimes the upgrade installers prompt you to do a clean install. Which forces you to wipe everything on your hard drive.

Oh and if you run any goofy 3rd party applications you might want to double check if they’re compatible with Leopard before upgrading. I seem to remember a few causing problems. This wiki is has a good list of what works and what doesn’t.
